I mentioned on Monday that I was waiting on two books from the library, and I'm still waiting. In fact, I'm still waiting on the books from last week from the library. Apparently I want to read some popular things. I think I'm going to switch some of them over to inter-library loan so I can get them quicker if they are available.
So anyway, from last week I'm still waiting onMaus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History by Art Spiegleman and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (and its sequel, which will be released in a couple of weeks).
And from earlier in the week, I am waiting on Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
from Goodreads:
When Dashti, a maid, and Lady Saren, her mistress, are shut in a tower for seven years for Saren's refusal to marry a man she despises, the two prepare for a very long and dark imprisonment. As food runs low and the days go from broiling hot to freezing cold, it is all Dashti can do to keep them fed and comfortable. But the arrival outside the tower of Saren's two suitors—one welcome, and the other decidedly less so—brings both hope and great danger, and Dashti must make the desperate choices of a girl whose life is worth more than she knows. With Shannon Hale's lyrical language, this forgotten but classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm is reimagined and reset on the central Asian steppes; it is a completely unique retelling filled with adventure and romance, drama and disguise.
and Savvy by Ingrid Law
from Goodreads:
A vibrant new voice . . . a modern classic.
For generations, the Beaumont family has harbored a magical secret. They each possess a "savvy"--a special supernatural power that strikes when they turn thirteen. Grandpa Bomba moves mountains, her older brothers create hurricanes and spark electricity . . . and now it's the eve of Mibs's big day.
As if waiting weren't hard enough, the family gets scary news two days before Mibs's birthday: Poppa has been in a terrible accident. Mibs develops the singular mission to get to the hospital and prove that her new power can save her dad. So she sneaks onto a salesman's bus . . . only to find the bus heading in the opposite direction. Suddenly Mibs finds herself on an unforgettable odyssey that will force her to make sense of growing up--and of other people, who might also have a few secrets hidden just beneath the skin.
Hopefully they'll come soon. In the meantime, I'm contenting myself with reading Singer, a book I picked up over the weekend at the library book sale.
