Normally for Friday Face Off I show you two covers that sorta look alike and you tell me who did it better. Today, we're going to do it a little different. These covers are similar, yes, but that is because they are two stories based on the same fairy tale. The tale is East of the Sun and West of the Moon, a Beauty and the Beast-like story of a girl who must go north and face the Polar Bear King.
So today, you will be deciding which cover did it better. Which draws you in more? Which makes you want to read that story? Which best pulls off the B&B meets the Arctic circle? Well...
who did it better?
Ice by Sarah Beth Durst published 2009
East by Edith Pattou published 2003
Last week on Friday Face Off: Ghostgirl and The Virago Book of Ghost Stories locked themselves in their coffins and refused to come out until a favorite was chosen; I hate to tell ya, Virago, but GHOSTGIRL won unanimously!
Have you seen any cover-twins or read-a-likes? Comment with the titles!
I like the cover for Ice better but I hear East is a far superior novel, though I have not read either...I want to read East first and then try Ice.
ReplyDeleteI've only read East, so I have to say that I'm a little biased in my saying that I like East better. (My gosh, I loved that book) Maybe it's also because of the fact that the girl is standing and touching the bear, while in the other it looks like is looking down at her as some sort of meal or something.
ReplyDeleteIce is my preference. Unbiased judgement because I have yet to read either. =D
ReplyDeleteI thin I prefer the cover of ICE.
ReplyDeleteI've just posted a look-a-like at my blog, go check it out if you want to! www.yavampirebooks.blogspot.com
Oooooo Ice!
ReplyDeleteIce - that cover is just too beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNo competition. ICE OWNS! :D
ReplyDeleteice ice baby
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've got to go with ICE, though I haven't actually read either of them (:
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the cover of East, but seeing both in person, Ice is the hands down winner. East is a nice picture, but Ice's cover also has this beautiful shimmery-blue surface -- you have to see it in person, trust me. In fact, I think Ice won as my favorite cover of 2009.
ReplyDeleteBTW, do you ever post the winners of your Friday Face Offs? I just wondering if maybe I had missed the announcements...
Great post, thanks for sharing!
I haven't read either, but I say Ice is better. Fun Face Off!
ReplyDeleteAlyssa -- I KNEW there was something I was forgetting to do! Adding them now. :}
ReplyDeleteICE! I need to get my hands on both of these books though!
ReplyDeleteI like the cover of Ice better. :)
ReplyDeleteThe cover for Ice wins for me!
