Guest post from Brian James, author of Zombie Blondes!

Oh,  my lovelies, have I got a treat for you.  Brian James, author, artist, generally funny man, has gotten into the Helluva Halloween spirit with a guest post (yay!).  Um, well, maybe it's a lack of spirit.  Helluva-anti-Halloween?  Or maybe he's just a really big chicken.
You decide.
;p

 [<-- I love this picture...]

It’s that time of year again when everyone seems to want a good scare. It’s also the time of year when people tend to get worked up and scare themselves because they go on a horror binge. Unless of course you’re the kind of person who takes Halloween as a big costume party and a chance to dress up like penguin or some other silly animal. Personally, I take the fright night seriously and therefore choose not to celebrate. No need to go out and taunt the demons or court fear when there’s plenty of it out there already.

In that spirit, I thought I’d share a list of some the things I find more terrifying than others.

1. Poltergeist – for some cruel reason, this movie is rated PG, which means I watched it when I was six years old and it left me quaking for weeks. I’ve never liked clowns ever since, which leads me to….

2. The Evil Circus—clowns are a huge part of what makes the circus evil. Serial killers dressed as clowns didn’t help their image. As I got a little older and learned about such people, it only gave me more reason to fear clowns. Of course, the evil circus is more than clowns. Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes proved that. There’s tons to fear about the circus.

3. The Stranger—a typical fear I know, but there’s nothing worse than walking down a city block late at night and seeing only one other person and they are walking toward you and you know you’ll have to pass them. This freaks me out even more so than having someone behind me because you have act like you’re not freaked out.

4. Fortune Cookies—well, not all fortune cookies to be sure. I’m specifically talking about one I got
once while alone in my NYC apartment and watching a horror movie. I opened the fortune cookie and it read “You will have a visitor soon, lock you’re door.” Seriously! That’s seems highly unnecessary.

 [For reals --->]

5. Animals Dressed Liked People—is there really anything more to say.
So while others will go out in search of frights, I think I stick with my already crippling fears.

Brian James is the author of many childrens and YA novels, including Zombie Blondes, which will be reviewed here on Book Rat Tuesday.  You may also want to come back tomorrow for a chance to win a signed copy of Zombie Blondes for yourself.
And I would also stop by Brain [every effing time] Brian's blog and check out one of my favorite things ever, the Great Rabbit Wars.
Just sayin'.

  1. I think that picture was perfect for the theme of this post!

I haven't read any of his books before, but this post alone makes me want to. Completely agree about Poltergeist. My older sister LOVED this movie. Watched it over and over again while I was freaking out cause she'd make me sit with her. Then my parents took it away when she stuck a butterknife in her baby doll's butt. True story.

If I got a fortune cookie like that, I would have peed my pants.
