TBR Tuesday (2)
I have a lot of books I've bought or received in a fury of excitement, only to have them languish on the shelves. This is one of those books.
I've had Beautiful Creatures for some time now (bought it for the cover, of course. You know me...), and then got a second copy, signed, at ALA, along with a signed ARC of Beautiful Darkness (two of those, too. A copy of each has since made it to the Prize Pool...). But somehow I haven't found the time to read either of them yet. They likely would have worked quite nicely for Helluva Halloween, but alas...
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
So what do you think? How near the top of the pile should they rest?
What's calling to you from your TBR pile, and how far to the bottom has it sunk?
I'm terrible at moving my TBR pile into the mess that is my bookshelves (a bookshelf that for the moment features LAYERS of books piled in front and on top of each other) and then promptly forgetting I ever owned them.
ReplyDeleteSo my big mission before say the end of 2010 is to sort through my bookshelves and dig out the books that belong in my TBR pile!
These look intriguing and well worth getting to! Thanks for sharing :}. One book that is at the top of my list is called, "Principle Destiny," by David A. Cleinman. I actually can't wait to read this one as a friend of mine just finished it and told me she couldn't put it down. It's about a princess who fights for everything she gains. Nothing is given to her. Nothing comes easy. Nothing is free. My kind of story!
ReplyDeleteAt the top of my list there is the Bird of the River by Kage Baker. Fantasy is my favorite genre and I haven't read anything written by Kage Baker yet. This book sounds simply awesome and I'm going to read it very soon!
