Friday Face Off: Firespell

Part of the reason I read Firespell when it came out at the beginning of the year was because I really liked the simple but striking cover.  Then, a few days ago, I came across the revamp of the cover.  I have no idea why the decision was made to swap out the dark haired girl for a light haired one (it's probably a reason I wouldn't like, I'm sure); the decision is especially weird considering the (gorgeous) cover of book 2, Hexbound, features the original dark-haired girl.  Hmm?  I do like what they did with the color of the title, though...
So what do you guys think?  Like the original cover (left) or new-fangled cover (right) better?

Hexbound; wonder if they're going to blonde this one up, too... --->

Last Week on FFO:  Across the Universe drew in double the votes of Glimmerglass, due to its gorgeous use of color.  That, and it made everyone start singing The Beatles, so where could it go wrong?

  1. I like the darker haired girl but I like that they lightened up the new cover. Made the features more distinguishable.

  3. I like the original cover of Firespell. First off, the way that the original cover has her hand kind of directing the candle and its light to her (I haven't read the book so I don't know who the girl on the cover is) face; and it only shows half of her face. It's like she doesn't want to reveal her full self but just enough so she's this mysterious girl. I also really like the ornate key, which just makes me think that there is some kind of mystery involving it. I also think it's cool that there's a reflection of it. The color scheme is better on the original cover, too; it's more of a dark red and gold than the redone cover, which has a lot more yellow. I like the way the letters fade out on the original cover, and I although I'm not completely "OMG WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???!!!" about the blurb on the original cover, it still adds more mystery (without reading yet) to the book. Both covers are fairly simple, but the original has a lot of intricacy to it.
The original cover just strikes me more, I probably would walk past the other one in a book store.

  4. The original cover is the best. I read the book, so she is the main character! I hate when they change stuff like that. Big changes I'm better with but they basically kept the cover and just changed the girl.
