Friday Face Off: Hourglass v Impossible

In most respects, these two covers look absolutely nothing alike.  But in 1 obvious way, they certainly have something in common: they are both books.  I kid, I kid.  But seriously, that's an...interesting hairdo...  I'm curious what you guys think.  Personally, I'm really torn.  The Hourglass cover makes me a little uncomfortable (in a good way) - it looks so unnatural and weird and cold.  I really like it, it's striking and memorable.  On the other hand, Impossible has one of my favorite covers, ever.  It's simply beautiful, and striking and memorable in its own way.  I also really love the blood red ballgown in the middle of the golden wheat fields.  So I could really go either way here.  But what about you?  Which book do you want to pick up, purely on cover appeal?
Which one does it better?

Before we move on to find out who won last week, make sure you keep your eyes wide open during Fairy Tale Fortnight, because one of these books could be yours.  I think you can guess which one.
(Hint: It's not Hourglass)

Last Week on FFO:  Forbidden and The Dark and Hollow Places showed us their hearts -- and they were made of barbed wire.  Only 1 person preferred Forbidden (for its simplicity), and The Dark and Hollow Places took the win this time.  (Though it still loses out to the US version of the cover)

  1. You're right - that cover is gorgeous. Plus that blurb from Gregory Maguire - "thrilling romantic puzzle" - is a great endorsement. Sounds awesome. Thanks for the rec!

  2. I love both covers, which makes this difficult. I think I'm going to go with Impossible: I love that wind-blown look, as well as the colours. :)

  3. Impossible! I love that cover too. The background, the girl in that dress, the hair is just good! Eyecatching.

  5. This is such a tough decision, but at the end of the day, I'd go for Hourglass.

I love the Impossible cover, especially the contrast of the red gown against the blue sky. However, there are a lot of covers out there with pretty dresses on them. Hourglass really mixes it up with a cover that's super trippy, and I enjoy the mind boggling element of it.

  6. Love both, but I would prolly pick up Hourglass just cause it's so crazy looking and makes me think time travel and paradoxes and Lionel Richie's Dancing on the Ceiling.
And really, what could be better than THAT?

  9. I'm totally in love with the Hourglass cover. How can you beat walking on the WALL?! O_O Plus it kind of looks like she's walking in slow motion or through water or something. It really fits with the SciFi feel of the book itself.
