CLOSED Impossible and Extraordinary giveaway, courtesy of Nancy Werlin!

Up for grabs today is a whole lot of awesome!  Feast your eyes on these beauties:

Lucy Scarborough is only 17, but she carries the burden of a curse that has already struck down several women in her family. Each of her afflicted ancestors failed at completing three seemingly impossible tasks, and each succumbed to madness at the birth of her first child. Facing this tragic fate, Lucy braces herself for a losing battle. Mercifully, she has allies in her struggle: intensely sympathetic foster parents and her loyal childhood friend Zach.

Phoebe finds herself drawn to Mallory, the strange and secretive new kid in school, and the two girls become as close as sisters . . . until Mallory's magnetic older brother, Ryland, shows up during their junior year. Ryland has an immediate, exciting hold on Phoebe, but a dangerous hold, for she begins to question her feelings about her best friend and, worse, about herself. Soon she'll discover the shocking truth about Ryland and Mallory: that these two are visitors from the faerie realm who have come to collect on an age-old debt. Generations ago, the faerie queen promised Pheobe's ancestor five extraordinary sons in exchange for the sacrifice of one ordinary female heir. But in hundreds of years there hasn't been a single ordinary girl in the family, and now the faeries are dying. Could Phoebe be the first ordinary one? Could she save the faeries, or is she special enough to save herself?

Misty says: I'm not going to lie (and it wouldn't do any good, because everyone already knows) I am a sucker for a good cover.  These are two that I want to just display prominently and treat like art.  So beautiful!  Both have been featured on The Book Rat before:

OK - I think my fairy tale name would be Gelati because I am so sweet (not really, ask my hubby, LOL).
Line: As Gelati ran through the forest, she would still hear the evil witch's laugh follow her.

~Best fairy tale villain and why?
I love Captain Hook from Peter Pan, he is just so much fun.

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?
    Sleeping Beauty
    ~Favorite tale as an adult?
    Beauty and the Beast
    ~Least favorites?
    Snow White.

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
I always wanted to be Sleeping Beauty. I love the idea of waking up to a kiss.

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
I would rather live alone in high tower. I like to be by myself.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
I would much rather ride in a pumkin carriage. I am miserable when my feel hurt.
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
I would rather a fairy godmother, she can then help me get prince charming and then I would have both.
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
I would eat the magic bean, much less calories.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
I would rather style all that hair. I love doing that stuff.
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
    I love to dance!

Thanks for the fun giveaway! I would love to be entered for all prizes.

have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming? the godmother, she has way more power

eat magic beans or golden eggs? eggs taste better

style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers? slippers I would be afraid of getting bugs in my hair

be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through? dance...more painful but more fun.

(not an entry, just wanted to answer for fun)

  3. This is such a fun way to do a contest!

~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...

Asparagus. Honestly, that just sounds like a fairy tale name to me. Or maybe it's because you put vegetables in my head with the lettuce thing LOL. Anyway... "Asparagus had always been tall and skinny, more of a tom boy than a fairy tale princess."

~Best fairy tale villain and why?

I had recurrent nightmares about the evil queen from Snow White as a child, so I think that's probably the best villain -- she was scary! She wanted to CARVE OUT Snow White's heart! How is this kid-friendly, Disney???

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?

Despite my previous answer, I was obsessed with Snow White as a child. I would make my parents watch it over and over and over. I knew the words by heart. I have no idea why I liked it so much, since I can't stand it now. Her little girl voice makes me crazy.

    ~Favorite tale as an adult?

I looove Beauty and the Beast (a bookish heroine!) and Mulan, because the girl kicks butt and doesn't let anyone tell her she can't do something just because she's a girl.

    ~Least favorites?

Like I said before, Snow White annoys me. I also don't like the original Anderson tale of The Little Mermaid. The whole turn-into-sea-foam thing just doesn't do it for me, and the thing about getting a soul if you help 1000 children do good deeds? It's way too preachy for my taste.

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?

I'd definitely want to be Mulan. She saves her entire country. And she gets the hotttt army guy in the end.

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?

All alone in a high tower, as long as I had books to keep me company! I could have some peace and quite =)

-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?

I would be terrified the glass shoes would break, so I'll go with being covered with pumpkin guts.

-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?

Prince Charming! Fairy Godmother spells expire at midnight, don't ya know?

-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?

Eww, I don't like eggs or beans. But magic beans could get messy, so golden eggs.

-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?

Style 50ft long hair -- that sounds like fun =)

-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?

Dance every night -- much more active than sitting around all day. Plus, I loved Entwined =)

  4. ~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...

Since i love Strawberries, i'd love to be named after it.
A girl, with fire-red hair named Serra, was wandering down the hallway when she saw a tall figure standing at the far end..

~Best fairy tale villain and why?
Snow White's Stepmother. She just amuses me whenever she asks the mirror who is the fairest of them all. She's plain crazy.

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?
Cinderella. I used to have a lot of Cinderella coloring books and pop-up books. I'd seen different versions of it too.

    ~Favorite tale as an adult?
Shrek. I just love it! Love donkey too.

    ~Least favorites?
    Goldilocks (and the Three Bears)

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?

Sleeping Beauty. How nice is it to sleep through all the bad things and be kissed? Very nice!

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?

Alone in a tower! I'd rather die in boredom than live with a troll.

-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?

Pumpkin Carriage! I don't care if it's messy. Eventually, you will get tired walking in glass shoes and will crave for the carriage!

-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?

Fairy Godmother. I could just wish for a Prince Charming anytime..

-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?

Eat Magic Beans! I'll just think that i'm eating Jelly Beans. I love Jelly Beans!

-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?

Ugh.. I think it's more fun to polish 100 pairs of glass slippers than to braid/curl a 50 ft long hair. Plus, a glass cleaner would be really helpful. *cough* Windex!

-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?

Dance. I love to dance! Worn shoes? Not a problem. I can dance barefoot.

    -------

I enjoyed answering all the questions, especially the choosing part. I'd love to win both books! Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  5. oops, I think my post was just erased by the cloud...
    Reposting.

~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale?

You know I'd totally go for sauerkraut renamed to Mr. Kraut. He'd be a devious dark creature.

Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...

Mr. Kraut ground the last clover under his heel gigglig at the thought of the look in the pixi's eyes as they came out of their holes at night and saw what had done.

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?
    Cinderella.
    ~Favorite tale as an adult?
Sleeping Beauty. You should check out Orson Scott Cards Enchanted. Creepy cool retelling.

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
    Tower! Love that view.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
I'm going with the pumpkin carriage.
Don't want glass shards in my feet.

-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
    Are those golden eggs solid?

-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
    The long hair, definitely.

-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?

I'd spin the straw. That sounds like the coolest parlor trick ever.

If I win Impossible looks the most interesting, but I'd take any of them. They both look fun.

  6. Whoa, Impossible sounds like an awesome book!!!!

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
My FAVORITE fairy tale of all time is Beauty and the Beast. I guess I just have this amazing fascination with the Beauty learning to love the Beast as a person despite his extremities. I would definitely want to live through that... Not necessarily be the Beauty but just to see the story unfold before my eyes.

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower? Ick, I'll take the high tower. Even if I don't like heights.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)? Pumpkin please. I hate heels. :P
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming? Prince Charming ftw!
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs? Golden eggs sound tasty! I'm not a fan of beans.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers? I'm not good at styling hair. I'll take the shoes.
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through? Ugh, I guess I'll take the gold. Sounds tiring but I don't like to dance in public.

  7. What a fun way to earn entries for a giveaway!

Best fairy tale villain= Snow White's evil stepmother. I loved the 'alternate' versions of her in the movies Enchanted and Snow White: A Tale of Terror.

--Favorite tale from childhood= it was a weird little story (German, I think, but I can't even find it by googling now) about these little breezes and a green goblin who comes to eat them. I have no idea what it's called, or if my grandmother just made it up, but it was definitely a fairy tale.

--My favorite tale now is Neil Gaiman's short story retelling of Snow White, it's called "Snow, Glass, Apples". It's so beautiful and bizarre and creepy, and the audio reading is fantastic.

-- If I had to live through a fairy tale: I'd like to be in the White Cat, because everything works out well enough.

-- I'd much rather live with the troll. Trolls can be alright, like in Holly Black's book Tithe.

-- I'd love to show up at school every morning in a pumpkin carriage, leaving a trail of pulp and seeds over the parking lot as I rolled in...

-- Fairy godmother all the way. Imagine if your life was like "The Fairly Oddparents".

-- I'd eat magic beans before eggs... don't like eggs except in cakes. ;)

-- I'd happily dance every night until my shoes were all saintlike (holey;) but I couldn't spin straw into gold to save my life.

Great giveaway-- I've been wanting to read these for a while. Let's see, I answered 9 questions, so I guess 9 entries. I'd take any of the prizes. :)

  9. -- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)? I would say glass shoes. Ever since I was a kid I have been jealous of them! They rule!

--Least favorites? Beauty and the Beast. This always scared me for some reason. I still don't really know why!

-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
I just bet the view is better in the high tower! I choose it!

~Best fairy tale villain and why? Cruella Deville! Who could do that to puppies?! Horrible women, scariest by far!

~Favorite tale as an adult? Peter Pan. I just love the idea of staying young in paradise forever.

  10. ~Best fairy tale villain and why? Gastar from Beauty and the Beast. He is so conceited and so sure of himself that he things all women should fall over for him. Bella sees him for who he really is.

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?Cinderella
~Favorite tale as an adult? I love Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid.
    ~Least favorites?

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be? I would be Bella from Beauty and the Beast. I love her character. She loves reading books like I do and she is very quiet like I am and she can see the real person deep inside.

Please enter me in contest. I really want to read these books. Tore923@aol.com

  11. My favorite tale as an adult is Sleeping Beauty; that's also who I would be as a fairy tale character. She's one of the few fairytale heroines who isn't completely dense, and her Disney prince is cute.

I'd rather have a Prince Charming, although I guess a fairy godmother WOULD be useful...

I would like to win Extraordinary, but both sound good.

  13. Ooooh, this is fun! Here I go :)

~What odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...

~A Doe. I used to get compared to an innocent dear when I was younger, I don’t quite know why, but I guess that would fit. So my name would be Doe, lol.

As Doe danced across the garden, whirling and twirling, completely engrossed as the rain ran down her skin, she had no idea she was being watched, no idea that life was about to change.....

~Best fairy tale villain and why?

~I’ve always had a thing for the sea witch in The Little Mermaid. She may be a hag and outright evil, but she was smart. A lot smarter than some fairy tale villains and she knew exactly what she was doing. Up until good triumphs over evil of course!

    ~Favorite tale from childhood?

    Sleeping Beauty

    ~Favorite tale as an adult?

    Beauty and the Beast!
No matter how many different movies, books, and retellings of it I see, the magic of it still isn’t lost on me. There’s something so wonderful about learning how important it is to look and see with the heart, instead of the eyes. That beauty truly is from within and that looks really don’t matter, not when you have a connection with someone that bigger than any of that!

    ~Least favourites?

~I always feel bad for Cinderella, having to do all that house work, haha!

~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?

I think I’d love to be Mulan =) Everything she goes through, everything she changes simply by taking her father’s place is inspiring. I’d love to be known for something like that!

    ~Would you rather (and why):
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?

~ The troll. Something tells me he’d be naughty and I’d need a little mischief in my life =) Plus, I’d need someone to talk to. I wouldn’t do good alone for that long.

-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?

~ Pumpkin carriage cos I could always wash my clothes afterwards and not have sore feet.

-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?

~ “Prince Charming” and he doesn’t even have to be a “prince”. I’d just love to meet that speacial someone.

-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?

~Golden eggs cos they’re well, golden and shiny and purrdy ;)

-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?

~Ahh is this a trick question? I’m a girl and you’re offering me 100 pairs of shoes. Need I say more....

-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?

    ~Dancing. It’d be fun and I love dancing :)

  15. Thanks for the fun & creative contest! I would love to win either of these books or both if this is my lucky day! :)

    1. Would I rather live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?

I would like to live all alone in a high tower because most of the time I prefer to spend time alone. This is mainly because people bug me! (not all people and not ALL of the time! :)

    2. Would I rather have have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?

That's easy! I would definitely choose the Fairy Godmother because she could grant me all of my wishes (which could be a Prince Charming! ;) She could also advise me not to make stupid wishes! LOL!
