TBR Tuesday: Fairy Tale Fortnight, edition 2

Sometimes, the best books are already on our shelves, waiting to be read.  TBR Tuesday is a chance to spotlight books that you own that have been languishing on the endless to-be-read pile.  It's a chance to showcase a book and bring it to the attention of those who haven't read it, and at the same time, finding out from those who have whether it's worth the read.
I had someone ask if people can snag the button and participate, to which I gave a resounding YES!  So feel free to post your own TBR and link back so everyone can see what's hiding in your TBR mountain!

This week is a special edition of TBR Tuesday, featuring a couple of fairy tale titles I own but didn't get to work into Fairy Tale Fortnight:

Once Upon a Marigold
Jean Ferris

A young man with a mysterious past and a penchant for inventing things leaves the troll who raised him, meets an unhappy princess he has loved from afar, and discovers a plot against her and her father.

I got this out of the Better World Books bargain bin for $3, and I thought, why not?  It sounded cute, and I've had a few people tell me it is, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Benevolence is not your typical princess and Princess Ben is certainly not your typical fairy tale. With her parents lost to unknown assassins, Princess Ben ends up under the thumb of the conniving Queen Sophia, who is intent on marrying her off to the first available "specimen of imbecilic manhood." Starved and miserable, locked in the castle's highest tower, Ben stumbles upon a mysterious enchanted room. So begins her secret education in the magical arts: mastering an obstinate flying broomstick, furtively emptying the castle pantries, setting her hair on fire... But Ben's private adventures are soon overwhelmed by a mortal threat facing the castle and indeed the entire country. Can Princess Ben save her kingdom from annihilation and herself from permanent enslavement?

I picked this up on someone's recommendation -- can't remember whose now... But it sounds pretty kick ass, and I definitely need to get around to reading it sooner
rather than later, I think.

What do you guys think?  Anyone read either of these?

  2. I liked, but didn't love Princess Ben. It's a good story, but I thought the resolution was a little... lacking.

Once Upon a Marigold has been on my list for a while too! But, I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
