You can read my review this Friday as part of Beach Reads, but until then, I thought why not give you a chance to win it? The lovely people at Sourcebooks sent me 2 copies, so I'd have 1 to give to one of you!
Check it out:
What Would Mr Darcy Do?
Abigail Reynolds
What if Darcy hadn't immediately left the inn? What if Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy had chosen to speak their feelings rather than to assume the worst about the other? Jane Austen's beloved characters are given the opportunity to reach out one last time before they part. While their path forward is still filled with misadventures and misunderstandings it is rich with humor, romance, and sensuality as they learn about each other and the meaning of love. But there's still a scandal threatening to engulf the Bennet family, and Elizabeth can't be sure that Darcy's love for her could withstand such a blow. Determined to give Darcy up rather than drag his name through the mud, Elizabeth will have to choose for herself between what she believes is right, and what she wants more than anything...

There are no extra entries for this one, but I do have a question for you: if you could choose any moment in any of Jane's books to create a "variation" and have things take a different path, which moment would you choose, and would the story end the same?
For me, I have a lot of little moments I would like to explore, but the one I would really tackle would be in Mansfield Park, when Henry Crawford lets me down. I want a story of redemption from him, and acceptance from Fanny, and no, the ending would absolutely not stay the same. (Sorry, Edmund fans)

While I agree with the idea of Henry Crawford being redeemed, I don't know if Fanny is the right woman to do it. As for a variation, I would like for Col. Brandon to take a longer look at Elinor and realize that she's the better match for him - and there are several little instances where he could have done this.

I kinda agree with you, Misty. It bugs me that Edmund chose to marry Fanny as he practically loves her as a younger sister.
ReplyDeleteI think that Bingley wouldn't be such a wimp listening to everyone elses opinion and find out the information for himself. Yes, it would still end the same, but I would love to see some backbone in him.

Margay mentioned what I would like to see Col Brandon and Elinor. It is such a better match.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about Edmund and Fanny. Their entire romance bugs me.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose one moment...what if Anne didn't find Wentworth's letter right away? What if she found it later when he was already gone? Ooh, the possibilities for emotional anguish are endless.
I would like Elizabeth to accept Mr Darcy's first proposal & watch the fireworks unfold.

I would like to see Mr. Collins propose to Mary instead of to Elizabeth. I think that she would have accepted him, and they seem suited for each other.
ReplyDeleteMine would have been, what if Emma actually married Frank Churchill? I'm not totally sure how that would end up, but I don't think Emma would be as happy or compassionate as she ultimately winds up being.
ReplyDeleteI would like for Lydia's elopement to not have happened and see how Darcy can win Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Mr. Elton (Emma) really fall for Harriet and her scorn him for the farmer (can't for the life of me remember his name!).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
