Beach Reads: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Beach Reads is a summer meme, posted here every
weekend.  It consists of quick, light reviews about books that
make good beach or backyard reading.   Find out more here,
and feel free to post your own Beach Reads and enjoy the summer right!

The Summer I Turned PrettyJenny Han
276 pages
Simon & Schuster Children's
from Ksenia @ Polish Outlander! Thanks, Ksenia!

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer--they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

'Nother vid review for ya.  Just want to say 3 things real quick:
1 - Yes, I did say I was a cold-hearted bitch
2 - THANKS KSENIA!
3 - This is on Amazon right now for $4!!!

  1. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought the same thing about the characters' mindset maybe being too young for me while I was reading, but there is definitely something there that makes me want to continue the series. From the synopsis of book 2, things get even more complicated.

  3. First of all, the fact that you said this book had lots of real human emotions leads me to believe that I will really enjoy it.

Second of all, the love octagon made me laugh.

Third of all, your bright yellow shirt makes me happy.

  4. I've been hearing that about the series a lot, Allison, that the 3rd book knocks it out of the park.
Liz, I think you would like it. I don't know if you'd love it, but certainly like it.
And thanks; a friend tried to talk me out of the bright yellow shirt, and my sister calls me a banana when I wear it, but I heart it.

  5. Glad you liked it! :D I read this and while I do intend to eventually read bks 2 & 3, I can't say I was terribly impressed by this one... It was... good, but not really something I loved. Not really my type of read & I never really loved any of the characters either.

  10. If you could see me now, you'd see me breathing a heavy sigh of relief! Phew! So glad you liked it :) I have to say, Jenny Han has such a fan club within our marketing department. One of the editors was shocked to learn that I liked this series so much, she went out and read it herself. Thought she'd just read the first one and then a few days later at the staff meeting, she asks "So, now I need book 2!"(As you can tell, I have quite the reputation for being that cold-hearted bitch, tee-hee). And just like Jenny Han got it and nailed everything down in the book, you got it and nailed pretty much everything about the book too! All I could think while watching your review was "yep, she's right. Yep, Misty's right again." :)
