Coming Attraction: Throne of Glass

Now, Throne of Glass isn't so much a fairy tale retelling (from what I can tell), but it does seem to be fairy tale-esque.  And author Sarah Maas is a self-professed lover of fairy tales, so I figured that makes her upcoming debut fair game for fairy (god, I've gotten so used to typing it that I can't help myself now...) Fairy Tale Fortnight.
Unfortunately, Bloomsbury is being stingy with the cover (I just want to know!!) so nothing's been released yet.  And as much as I would have liked to just make one as I did for Fathomless, I just couldn't find a good picture of a glass throne.  Guess we'll just have to wait with baited breath - just like they want us to... ;)
Until then, I'll just have to show you the covers for the pre-book novellas...

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass
Fantasy, 416 pages
Expected publication: August 7th 2012 by Bloomsbury USA Children's
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

  1. I read somewhere that it was a retelling of Cinderella...

  2. I haven't heard of this one at all! It kind of reminds me of Grave Mercy that just came out. I mean, just the fact that she's an assassin.

When I think of Throne of Glass I think of the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones only made of Glass or Superman's retreat made of ice.

  5. At fist I kind of wrote this book off...but then I read the synopsis and it sounded good so I put it on my TBR pile. Then I just read it again on your post and for some reason some of the awesomest details didn't really register the first time...this has become a MUST read for me now. Hopefully it lives up to it's potential!
