From the Vault: Water Song

There are a lot of fairy tale retellings in the Once Upon a Time series (by various authors), but this is one I definitely want to check out.

Water Song by Suzanne Weyn
208 pages
Published October 24th 2006 by Simon Pulse
Young, beautiful, and wealthy, Emma Pennington is accustomed to a very comfortable life. Although war rages abroad, she hardly feels its effect. She and her mother travel from their home in Britain to the family estate in Belgium, never imagining that the war could reach them there. But it does. Soon Emma finds herself stranded in a war-torn country, utterly alone. Enemy troops fight to take over her estate, leaving her with no way to reach her family, and no way out. With all of her attention focused on survival and escape, Emma hardly expects to find love. But the war will teach her that life is unpredictable, people aren't always what they seem, and magic is lurking everywhere.

  1. Never heard of it, but I'm going to have to check it out. I love fairy tale retellings. I'm guessing it's good or you wouldn't be pulling it from the vault.

  2. I don't know if it's good, I haven't read it! I want to; it's just from the vault because it's already out and has been for awhile - so it's not a Coming Attraction, you can get your hands on it now, but I still wanted to give it a mention.

  3. I hadn't heard of this series at all! Excited to see that there are so many installments, and I'm really interested in checking some of them out. Particularly those that retell some lesser known, and more rarely retold stories.

  4. I love the Once Upon a Time series, though Water Song wasn't one of my absolute faves. I thought the WWI-historical aspect was quite interesting, though.
