I want to read this because it's so cool to see a book about The Ugly Duckling! This was my WoW last week for FTF....oooh, I guess I missed WoW today. Oh well.

Okay, now that I've read Suzanne's description of this one, I want to read it for that, three handsome guys, action, adventure and for the beautiful cover and I love it when the girl with nothing all the sudden has everything!

The Sweetest Spell has definitely caught my attention. I would love to get my hands on it. I love how Suzanne Selfors was inspired by the Midas myth and let the story evolve from there. As for my favorite underrated fairy tale? It's so hard to choose, but I think I'll say The Snow Queen.

ReplyDeleteFrom the first time I read the synopsis, I couldn't wait to read it! It sounds kind of ridiculous, but it's MAGIC. CHOCOLATE. MILK. It makes me hungry every time I read it. (I guess I'll have to have some chocolate nearby as I read.)
ReplyDeleteOh, and the most underrated fairy tale is "The Riddle" by the Brothers Grimm. It's the perfect example of just how queer fairy tales are, bursting with magic, dead animals, and lots of riddles!

Cows?! Not wolves, not eagles, but cows? I like cows - all animals - but still - unexpected. OK, then I saw it's a retelling of the ugly duckling. I'm sure all will be clear and natural in context. lol.

I want to read this book because it looks like a beautiful new addition to the Fairy-Tale genre, and being the FT nut that I am, I love a good FT! And the Ugly Duckling? WAY COOL.
ReplyDeleteI think Sleeping Beauty is underrated. It feels like I'm the only one that knows the songs and the story; the other girls were bored by it.
ReplyDeleteI would like to consider Peter Pan a fairy tale. I don't think it gets enough credit for having a strong "female" main character. Although Peter is written as a male, the first and most famous person who performed as Peter, on stage, yearly, was Mary Martin. She was terriffic!!!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite underrated fairy tale is Snow White and Rose Red. I have loved that tale since I was a kid and it saddens me to know not many people know about it.
I would live this bookit looks sweet and beautiful. Everything a fairy tale should be. There are so many fairy tales I would love to read. If only I was rich I could read more of the underrated or less explored tales. Wining something from fairy tale fort night would make my year!

ReplyDeleteI'll go with The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers as my favorite underrated fairy tale. Not many people seem to have heard of it and it's so funny and different.
i think it is the Twelve Dancing Princesses. There aren't a lot of books or movies out about it.

I have to admit, reading the synopsis of this one made me laugh out loud...and made me desperately want to read it. Seriously? A fairy tale about a girl with an affinity for cows and the ability to make chocolate milk?! I love it. The whole concept is such a step away from the fancier tales we normally see told, but totally in tune with the old school.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite underrated fairy tale? East of the Sun, West of the Moon as well as the Goose Girl. Hands down. Technically they aren't THAT underrated (in that case, perhaps the Black Bull of Norroway..?), but they are definitely much less retold as opposed to Cinderella and the rest. XD
