Friday Face Off: Enchanted vs. Dreaming Awake

I noticed this cover pairing in the midst of Fairy Tale Fortnight, but I didn't do any FFOs during the event, so I just had to save it until after.  But I found it funny that the Face Off I noticed actually used one of the books from FTF.
So. Same model, same dress, clearly from the same shoot. But two very different covers with two very different feels. Which would you reach for on the shelves? Which makes you curious about the story within?
Which one did it better?

Last Time on FFO:  The hardcover and paperback versions of Franny Billingsley's Chime went head to head, with the dark, earthy look of the original winning more of you over.  You liked the pop of blue text on the brown background, and thought the second looked more commercial and sprightly.  (The a few of you weren't really fans of either...)

Are those the same dress in different shades??? I wonder what the respective cover designers said when they saw the other one. LOL!

My vote goes to Enchanted because we see more of the dress. I also think that if both were photo shoot products on America's Next Top Model, Enchanted would get an early call out and Dreaming Awake would be in the bottom two. Does that count? LOL!

  2. Lol. I've seen a bunch of people talking about these two.

Let me first say that I think both covers are lovely and well done (although I'm not in love with the expression on the model's face on DA.)

It's a little bit cheating, but I have absolutely no desire to read DA and I've already read (and VERY much enjoyed) E, so I DEFINITELY pick that one.

BUT- Even without knowing what the two are about, I straight up just frakking LOVE the cover for Enchanted. I mean, like, whoa. So much so that the cover, when paired with the fact that it's a freaking Frog Prince retelling (/mashup) made it my NUMBER ONE MOST anticipated 2012 release. So... Ya. Definite win :P

  3. I like both. I can't account for whether these covers bear any relevance to their stories, but as to the composition of the cover and the general aesthetics? YES I CAN!

Enchanted gets points for the dreamy kind of fairytale-y feel it gives off, with the cream-ish tinge to the dress as well as the garden in the background and also the title text. Also, I prefer the pose; the model looks so cute. :)

What Dreaming Awake does better IMO is it's not as crowded. It seems to feel more sophisticated, by the striking contrast of the red petals (?) and the white dress. Also, the title is bigger and I don't know, I like the composition more, in general.

I'll go with Enchanted, because it makes me feel happy when I look at it.

  4. Wow, I would never have noticed that because they shaded the dress differently.

I like the Enchanted cover much better. I like the colors. :)

  5. Dreaming awake.
    For sure.
    It's the red I think.

  6. Dreaming awake.

Being someone who has to notice photoshoped things (it's often part of my job), I knew that Enchanted's color was off and it bugged me (plus the odd blurring at the top of her head). So, Dreaming awake is a little cleaner, and that's the one I'm going to pick.

  7. Definitely Enchanted! I've loved that cover since I first saw it! :D

  8. Enchanted, better colors, more interesting pose. Dreaming Awake looks like a Gold-Rush Romance.

  9. So cool that you pointed that out. Would never have noticed since I don't plan on reading DA anytime soon! I would probably go for Enchanted most definitley. I mean she looks asleep that's kinda intriguing. and the cover is just prettier.

  10. I'd say Enchanted, but I'm not a fan of either cover.

  11. Both are pretty covers, but I love Enchanted more! It's got a softness to it, and I love the coloring better and the lettering and scrolling(?)
And of course, I'm in love with the story, so I may be a bit biased, lol!

  12. I feel like Enchanted is by FAR the better cover of the two of these. I love the frog, and the dreamy look on her face is so fitting. It makes me curious about the story. Dreaming Awake just says to me 'another sad girl in a fancy dress' and what is up with the giant rose petals? Does not grab my interest at all.

  13. I like Enchanted much better. I like the embellishments on the cover, they are the perfect tough for a photographic cover.
