TBR Tuesday: Lips Touch

TBR Tuesday: Showcasing all the books that are currently staring at you from your "Why aren't you reading me?" pile....

On my TBR
Lips Touch by Laini Taylor
266 pages
Published October 1st 2009 by Scholastic Inc.
Three tales of supernatural love, each pivoting on a kiss that is no mere kiss, but an action with profound consequences for the kissers' souls:

Goblin Fruit: In Victorian times, goblin men had only to offer young girls sumptuous fruits to tempt them to sell their souls. But what does it take to tempt today's savvy girls?

Spicy Little Curses: A demon and the ambassador to Hell tussle over the soul of a beautiful English girl in India. Matters become complicated when she falls in love and decides to test her curse.

Hatchling: Six days before Esme's fourteenth birthday, her left eye turns from brown to blue. She little suspects what the change heralds, but her small safe life begins to unravel at once. What does the beautiful, fanged man want with her, and how is her fate connected to a mysterious race of demons?

I bought Laini Taylor's Lips Touch: Three Times some time ago (twice, actually, because it got lost in the mail the first time 'round...) based on the recommendations of a few GR friends, and I've even read the first story, Goblin Fruit, because hello? Goblins. But as much as I liked that story, and as much as I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I had to set it down because I was really busy at the time.  And now it's just sitting on my shelves, begging me to read it. I pick it up and look at it sometimes. I think to myself, I could sneak you in. You're not that long, and you have amazing illustrations. I could do it. But I restrain myself, and I don't think I want to anymore.  SO maybe (hopefully), someday soon, Lips Touch will end up in my monthly TBR...

Have you guys read this one? What did you think?  And if you haven't read it, do you intend to? (I mean, goblins.)

What's clinging to your TBR pile this week?

  1. I think I put this one on my tbr list a while ago but I don't actually have it. Was the Goblin story good?

  3. Hello Misty! I read LIPS TOUCH a long time ago and unfortunately didn't enjoy it. I found it all arrogant and blurry and I remember thinking that each of these three stories might have been better as real books. Well, that was my opinion anyway!

But, hey, goblins! Hope you'll manage to read it and that you'll enjoy LIPS TOUCH more than I did! :)

  4. I read this one a while back and have been meaning to hunt down more works by this author ever since! I really enjoyed the stories (though I thought the title's emphasis on kissing was a bit odd seeing as the unifying theme of the stories seemed to be souls). I know there was some (I think non-graphic) violence toward animals that really bothered me, but I thought the stories were immaginative and powerful. I thought the language was very effective, and I look forward to seeing how the author's voice develops in years to come.

  5. Charlotte ~ I have no idea whether I'll end up agreeing with you because I like Laini Taylor and I did like the first story in the book. But I just wanted to say I love the description "arrogant and blurry"!
