Cover Crush: Misty's Favorite Austen Cover Designs, pt 1

I don't know about you guys, but when it comes to my favorite classics, I don't mind have multiple copies on my shelves. When it comes to classics, there are so many different versions out there, something to suit everybody, that when it comes to your favorites... you kinda want them all. (I hope I'm not the only one...)
And since a lot of classics covers tend to be sort of drab and stuffy, I especially like it when the cover designers and artists step out of the box a bit.
That being said, here are some of my favorite set designs for Jane Austen's works:

These line drawings from Penguin.
Penguin tends to have the best covers across the board for classics, IMO, and they are continuously coming out with new ones that I just have to have...

Penguin's Clothbound Classics editions.
Again, Penguin has the best. They took the idea of quirky, simplistic covers and made the best of them with these beautifully finished, deluxe versions featuring 2-color repeating motifs.

Random House's Vintage Austen line.
I'm not sure who the cover artist is on these, but I have a friend who makes similar repeating texture/pattern art like this, and I love it. These are a nice blend of classic and quirky, and I'd love to see them in person.

I certainly have more covers I want to show you guys, so keep a lookout for that.
And let me know in the comments what you think of these 3 sets, or if you have any favorite Austen cover designs you'd like to point me in the direction of...

  6. These covers are RAD! I loooove the Vintage covers - I have a few copies of other books (such as "North and South") with Vintage, but I should get some of those adorable Austen books with them! :)

  7. These are some strange covers, especially the one of Emma with all the chairs. Haha.

  8. Wow. They're all very catchy covers, but those clothbound classics are just perfect.

  9. Am I the only one who likes the line-drawing ones best? I do like the vintage ones, too. I love going to my favorite used bookstore and seeing all the different covers for Austen's books.

  10. I am so very much in love with those Penguin clothbound editions. I'm in love with that entire line, not just the Austen versions of it. They're expensive but so very, very pretty. And it would be nice to have matching Austen books.

  11. I like the texture of the cloth bound but I like the line drawings for creativity best. I think mine are plain hardback not much excitement. It was nice to compare differences since I've never done that before.
