When I saw the cover for Elizabeth Richards Black City (which I need to get my hands on, 'cause it sounds so good!), it immediately reminded me of a book that's been sitting on my shelves for some times now: Gail Giles' Dark Song. Though this isn't a case of 2 books using the same stock photo, as we often see, the similarities between the two are pretty obvious. I love the motion of Black City; it really does seem like an action shot, whereas Dark Song has an intriguing fragility. In Black City, the image is all but gone, whereas it's more crisply defined in Dark Song. So what do you think? Which one - if any - would you reach for on the shelves?
Which one did it better?
Last Week on FFO: The ARC and final versions of the cover for Elizabeth Fama's Monstrous Beauty went head to head, with the final version just managing to pull out a win.
Winner ------>
Hmmmm.....this was hard because their BOTH SO BEAUTIFUL. but I'm gonna go with Black City! :D
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't reach for either, but since I like the red bar behind the title in Dark Song, I'm voting for that. :)
ReplyDeleteI like Dark Song more because I can't even tell what that is on Black City. In Dark Song I can tell it's a rose at least.
ReplyDeleteBlack City by FAR.
ReplyDeleteBlack City. I love the way it looks shattered and the city scape in the background.
ReplyDeleteBlack City because the shattering effect makes it look absolutely amazing
ReplyDeleteI like Black City. The flower fills the frame better and the explosion is more interesting to look at
ReplyDeleteThe first one (left) is better! I like that one a lot! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm for Black City! That explosion is just so much more interesting. Full of power and excitement. I feel like it's a more action read over a languid dark romance that I get from Dark Song. Plus I like how Black City has more contrast. It's not muted like Dark Song.
ReplyDeleteI like them both. Maybe Black City a bit more.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Black City! The cover is just so much more crisp and clean and STUNNING! Can't wait for it to come out! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll vote for Black City because I like the action of the exploding flower. It's not a fragile break, but a life shattering something. Dark Song's cover is much more delicate and gives a different feel. Both look great
