Friday Face Off: Throne of Glass

Remember back during Fairy Tale Fortnight when we were all eager for Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass to come out, and we were waiting with baited breath for the cover to be revealed. And then it was, and we were all like, "Wait - is someone trolling? Where's our badass assassin? Why's she look so...soft? And why does the background - the throne of glass, one assumes - look like a photoshopped photo-negative of the tower of Pisa, or something? I iz disappoint." Since then, it's settled, and I think some have even grown to quite like this cover (maybe?), but that won't stop me from picking at a healing wound...
ON THAT NOTE, I came across the Canadian cover (and likely cover for other countries, I dunno. I just know a Canadian friend was reading it, and I was like, hey, no fair! That's the cover I want!! I'm guessing it's the UK cover.). So here, for your voting pleasure, I give you 2 versions of Throne of Glass, even though I feel like the US cover is going to be mercied by the other... But who knows, I guess I could be proven wrong*.
What do you think? Which would you reach for and which speaks to you, yadda yadda?
Which one did it better?

*I've been told there's a first time for everything...

Last Week on FFO: Black City and Dark Song went head to head, shattered rose to dipping (?) rose, with Black City, erm, shattering the competition.

  1. UGH I hate the US cover! Soooo bad. What could have been pure badassery turned out to be the same thing as all the other YA covers. I purposely ordered the UK cover so it could be pretty, even if I have to wait FOREVER for it to arrive.

  4. I actually like the US cover because it looks more like Celaena. She's a badass assassin yes, but she is a girly girl who uses her good looks.

  5. I like the UK cover it is just prettier and that's the one I would buy.

  6. I wouldn't probably pick up either. The US cover makes the book seem like fluff (after reading a couple of reviews, it might be appropriate); the UK cover makes it look more like badass fighter, but it doesn't appeal to me at all.

I think I'm going to pass on this book.

  7. Definitely the UK cover for me - the US one just doesn't work in my opinion, especially having read the book!

  8. I actually like both, for me the US cover is a sure attention grabber, because she does have a striking beautiful face.

But in the long run, I think the UK cover is just something that you won't get tired of looking at.

    So, yeah, UK.

  10. Kind of a close one for me. There are things I like and don't like about both of them. In the end the UK/Canadian cover on the right wins for the use of body armor. A nice detail, very well done.

  11. Definitely the UK cover! I love illustrated covers, and the cool colors work well with the word Glass. The only thing that bothers me is that the knees are drawn too low.

  12. UK forever. What were the US designers thinking?

  13. The knees ARE drawn too low, Maija! And NOW I CAN'T UNSEE IT.
