IF YOU LEAVE author Courtney Cole guest post + HUGE GIVEAWAY!! | blog tour

You guys know I love me a list, so today I have some bits of advice in the form of a Top 5 list, courtesy of author Courtney Cole. If You Leave, the second in Courtney's gritty new adult series Beautifully Broken, was just released in paperback last week, and to celebrate, Courtney's making the rounds on an If You Leave blog tour, as well as offering up chances for readers to win lots of awesome goodies (including a kindle fire!), which you can enter below!
But first:

Top Five Pieces of Advice I’ve gotten as a writer:

  1. Write every day. Yes, I know Stephen King nailed this piece of advice a long time ago, but it’s just as true now as it ever was. If I don’t write every day, I start to feel rusty. I start to feel out of my routine—it’s just better to write every day—even if it’s only 200 words.
  2. Write for yourself. Don’t try to write what you think your readers might want. You need to write what you’re passionate about—because that passion will come through.
  3. Cut without mercy. If you can say something in four words instead of eight, say it. The more succinct the better- in order to get the real point across.
  4. Paint a picture with words, but don’t be too flowery.
  5. Read. Reading to a writer is like playing scales for a pianist. It warms us up and keeps our skills sharp.

****GIVEAWAY****
As part of the blog tour for IF YOU LEAVE, readers have the chance to win lots of awesome stuff, including copies of the book, swag, and a motherflippin' Kindle Fire. For realsies.
Enter on the Rafflecopter below, and make sure to check out the other stops on the tour!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
If You Leave by Courtney Cole
Get It | Add It
26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.

They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly.
