The word "Sanditon" may not mean much to all but the most die-hard of you, as it was an uncompleted novel of Austen's - and more's the pity, as it had the makings of a very bitingly funny novel. Even though it's only a fragment, it's one I love (thanks in large part to Marie Dobbs' skillful completion of it), so I was very excited to see the team behind The LBD take on the tale.
In it, fans of the Diaries will see some familiar faces, as the new show's star is none other than Gigi - Miss Georgiana Darcy herself, via Darcy's company, "Pemberley Digital" and their new software, Domino. Clever, clever...
Being a lesser-known tale, it may be harder for some of you to connect to, and some of you may even be thinking that the producers are silly to think they can capture lightning in a bottle twice. As for me - and I hope, many of you - I'm more than happy to see Hank Green and Co. continue to bring Austen's works into the modern age with their clever, well-crafted adaptations.
Below you'll find the first 3 episodes of the series, which you can watch in full here, as well as some of the pre-show set-up, which is tied into the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I myself intend to catch up as soon as AIA is over, 'cause I am behind and very curious to see how they deal with ending an adaptation of a novel that was left unfinished...

I will have to check these out since I enjoyed the version of Sanditon I read, but I haven't finished with The LBD yet.
ReplyDeleteI meant to start this, because I loved the LBD, but I wanted to read Sanditon first, as half of the fun of the LBD was picking out the bits taken straight from the book, which they'd changed etc and I haven't got round to reading it so far.
ReplyDeleteVery good point. It really is a good portion of the enjoyment. I was always amazed by how many people I saw in the comments of LBD who hadn't read the book and were asking people not to "spoil" things. lol
