You guys probably know by now how much I love Cat Valente's Fairyland series. Like, really, really love it.
Push it on everyone, love it.
Compose odes to it, love it.
(Okay, maybe not that last one. Yet.)
I said book 1 was a "feat of utter nonsense" (and I meant that in the best possible way), and that book 2 gave me "Happy Reader Shivers." [Also, I just realized that I said "Long may she reign" as Queen of Nonsense in both reviews. I don't believe that was intentional, so that just shows you how much I meant it...] Last year I even got to reveal the trailer for the second book (and if you haven't heard me talk about my love of the trailers -- well...)
So it's established: I love this series.
Which is why I'm happy to be getting to share a reading of the 3rd book, The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two, with you, as well as a chance to win the series for yourself!

ReplyDeleteAmanda Jackson
This sounds like a fun series!
ReplyDeleteI really really loved Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente and ever since I heard she also had this series out I've wanted to read it so bad.
ReplyDeleteAss a girl I loved fairytales....as an adult I find I enjoy the deeper, darker meanings in the stories...Am always looking for a new good book and these sound great.
ReplyDeleteAs a girl......too early in the morning and am still half asleep....
ReplyDeleteThese books to me are so "Alice in Wonderland" in the most original way. I look forward to book three! ^^ Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteRead the first one, need to catch up. Love the excerpt! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI like the writing style. I'll have to give these books a try. And I bet some of my students would enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteAh, i really want to pick these books up they sound so fun and quirky and just AMAZING and honestly, unlike anything I'm reading at the moment. Also that excerpt was so good, great way to start off a book I was drawn in! Thank you for opening my eyes up to this series Misty! :) x
ReplyDeleteI was looking at these books before but never got them. They had high reviews on amazon.
ReplyDeleteThe writing is so juicy. I love the way the author uses words. Her ability to tell a story and captivate a reader is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this series for a while. With Deathless, I fell in love with Valente's words.
ReplyDeleteI love re-reading the first of this series every fall, and I'm looking forward to finishing the third one as a way to de-stress from midterms!
ReplyDeleteI want to read these books because you made me interested in them! I had never actually heard of them before I watched your videos! I am very interested because of how much you seem to like them!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, yes yes yes! I've heard SO many amazing things about this series. It sounds perfect for me in every way. Christina over at A Reader of Fictions has been tweeting quotes, and I've been DYING. Curse my library for being understocked! Even the little quote on the left makes me feel all fluttery.
ReplyDeleteBecause you never can have too many fairytales.
ReplyDeleteI love these books and are looking forward to the third book.
ReplyDeleteI've read the first book on my e-reader, and I know a couple of kids who would adore it.
ReplyDeleteJust the titles alone are so intriguing. Plus, I've seen so many great reviews of this series. The newest book looks even better. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Fairy tales! There is soo much more that can happen in a fairy tale versus real life.
ReplyDeleteI adore this series more than words can express. For that reason, I cannot listen to the excerpt because I won't be able to keep reading and then I will cry. lol Such a fun, whimsical series I can't wait to get my hands on book 3. :)
ReplyDeleteha. I just went to go tweet about the giveaway and saw you think they're whimsical too! :)
DeleteWhy do you love (or want to read) the Fairyland series, and what did you think of the excerpt?
ReplyDeleteHonestly besides the trailers because of you reviews and because it sounds like a fun read
Oh my gosh! I've been wanting to read the first one since I saw the trailer for it! I didn't even know there were two more! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! These books sounds great.
ReplyDeleteLove this series so much!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this prize pack- the books have been in my TBR pile for a while. The concept sounds awesome and a lot of people have been raving about it.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I hadn't heard of the series, but based on all the wonderful comments it sounds like something I'll have to check out. My daughter loves fantasy books read aloud to her and this series sounds right up our alley. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about this book and since I love fairy tail I think I should give it a try =)
ReplyDeleteI have Valente's A Guide to Folktales in Fragile Dialects and I love her poetic voice! Judging by excerpt you read, what with the "long cindery smoke colored clouds" and the description of the tea cup, how the concept of lies was carried out- her fiction seems to be equally lush and gorgeous which is why I am interested in reading more of her work :D
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to read, I've heard so many great things and I always hear you talking about it!
ReplyDeleteI reeeeally want to win the Fairyland series because I'm obsessed with other worlds in stories, and you always rave about this series as being awesome! plus, those titles are just too beautiful to think that the story inside could possibly be bad!
ReplyDeletealso, the excerpt was very engaging with all the discussion about lies. makes you wonder how the story will play out.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend read these recently and she has not stopped talking about them since. Usually when she's this excited about a book, it's a good bet I'll like it too. :)

ReplyDeleteI wanted to read this from the moment I read the title! But, having heard you read an excerpt and knowing you love this series has pushed it to the point of obsession! It would be amazing to win this!
ReplyDeleteHi, Misty! I just want to say, I love watching your videos over on youtube! Please do keep them coming! Your excerpt brings the magic of the series to life, and I'm so excited to have discovered a new series that is equal parts fun and adventure. Can't wait to start it! :)
ReplyDeleteFirst, I fell in love with this series the first time I saw the cover of TGWCFIASOHOM. I listened to the audiobook that was narrated by none other than Cat Valente and it was magical. I really, really hate when people say that authors shouldn't narrate their own books because some authors should be the only ones allowed to narrate their books (Cat Valente, Neil Gaiman, Joshilyn Jackson). I wasn't able to get the audio of TGWFBFALTRT (not narrated by Cat Valente) so I had to read it myself and I frequently found myself reading aloud. I've checked out TGWSOFACTMIT from the library but I haven't been able to start it yet. I may have to wait to get the audiobook because I learned that it is narrated by her awesomeness, Cat Valente. I can't comment on the excerpt because I don't do excerpts.
ReplyDeleteI love faeries and fantasy books; anything magical is my cup of tea! <3 This book sounds wonderful, and I definitely have my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteTerribly excited about this. I loved the first book (though I don't have it in paperback!) and haven't yet had a chance to read the second. Fingers crossed!
