Interview with Lindsay Mead, author of The Beast + Cover Reveal!

Lindsay Mead is a vlogger buddy of mine, but I have been a bad friend, because I somehow didn't know until very very recently that Lindsay was releasing a steampunk Beauty & the Beast retelling! Of course I had to jump on the chance to get Lindsay involved and pick her brain about her story, which she was happy to oblige me in!
Check out our little chat, as well as the awesome cover reveal trailer Lindsay made for the book, below!

Hi, Lindsay! Congrats on the book! What inspired you to write The Beast? And did the process of writing it ever surprise you? (ie, did the story change drastically, did characters come out of nowhere and do "unexpected" things, etc.?)
The idea just smacked me in the face one day. I truly couldn't believe that no one had done it before. The Beauty And The Beast is my all-time favorite fairy tale, so I jumped at my chance to do something with it. If anything surprised me, it was how much the characters changed all because of this new twist. It changed their environment, therefore it changed them.

What kind of fairy tale kingdom would you reside over? (earth, sea, air, etc)
If I pick air, does that mean I get to fly? If so, then I am all over that!

Would you rather...
- Would you rather open and unleash Pandora's Box or unlock and enter Bluebeard's locked doom room?
Hmm, horrible apocalypse VS a creepy room with dead bodies. I think I'll have to throw myself under the bus for this one.
- Sleep for one thousand years (Sleeping Beauty) or tell stories for 1001 Nights (Scheherazade)?
SLEEP! No question. Think how good you'd feel after that kind of sleep. Plus, it'd be cool to see what happened to the world while I was out.
- live in a gingerbread house or a door-less tower?
Doorless tower. I'd never stick to my diet in a gingerbread house.
- Follow a trail of breadcrumbs or climb a rope of hair?
Climb the hair. I probably wouldn't make it too the top, but breadcrumbs wouldn't last long in the woods. I'd end up lost for sure lol.

This or That?
Flying carpet or flying broom?
Broom. I wouldn't feel very safe on a carpet.
Talking animals or talking inanimate objects?
Animals. Possessed objects would freak me out.
Mermaid or unicorn?
Unicorn. Magical powers AND you can ride them-- if you're female that is.

Word Association - Say the first word that pops into your head when we tell you….
Magic - Awesome
Happy - I am.
Queen - I am. (Serisouly that's what popped in my head lol)
Shoes - Hobbits. (It's a feet thing)
Trees - Pretty.
Evil - Maleficent Woot!
Frog - Prince
Gold - Cursed.

And now for the trailer!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Add It on Goodreads
Demon possession has swept through Glace's neighboring kingdom, turning humans into Hellhounds. These great, fanged wolves are wild, desperate, and hungry. Only the sworn Hunters have kept them back for five long, bloody years.

At the young age of fifteen, Belle LeClair became a Hunter. She no longer remembers how many hounds she's killed, or how many friends she's buried. Still, Belle leads the hunt till a tragedy forces her deep into the dark kingdom. Her heart will be turned, her loyalty tested— and fate will intervene.

Amid a backdrop of Steampunk inventions and a harsh winter landscape, The Beast is a re-imagining of the infamous love between a beauty and a beast.

  3. Cool! I'm all about BATB retellings, and steampunk is a great venue for that. And that there's actual beasts, not furry-fied princes, makes me excited to read more. :D
