July's #WednesdayYA pick is... [1.7]

Well, it was a battle well-fought (and I really thought it was going to come down to a tie-breaker), but in my & Liz' little impromptu battle of the gender benders, only one girl in disguise could come out on top to be our featured July #WednesdayYA read. And that girl was...

Scarlet by A. C. Gaughen
Historical/Retelling/Gender-Bender, 292 pages
Published February 14th 2012 by Walker Childrens
Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.

Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in.

It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

Though I'm eager to read Eon, too, my girl Scarlet wins the day this time. And at least one of you was one over by Richard Armitage, so... I may fight dirty, but to that I say: You're welcome.

I really hope that you'll join me and Liz in reading and discussing Scarlet throughout the month of July. I'll be sharing bits here and there, so keep an eye out on instagram and twitter, and Liz and I will be hosting our wrap-up discussion of the book on the last Wednesday of the month, July 30th at 8:30 EST, 7:30 Central. You can follow along and join in with the hashtag #WednesdayYA. Hope to see you there!

And for all of you who are bummed that we're not reading Eon this month - keep an eye out, because it will happen!

  1. Oooh! I've never participated in the Wednesday Book Club but I've had this book for a long time so I would love to join you guys. I kind of suck with Twitter but I'll do my best to participate in it.

  2. Wahooo! Have fun! I'm just gonna hang out of here, lusting after Gisbourne (and damnit, Marion, he's got more going for him than that egotistical lout Robin Hood!). *sigh* Clearly I need to re-watch the series.
