Because I Am A Girly-Girl... | #BookLooks (1)

...I have a little bit of an obsession with nail polish. (Well, and makeup, too. Any means of putting bright color upon your person, I'm a fan of.) This is not news to anyone who follows me on instagram, or has ever had a girls night with me, and been witness to the suitcase of *stuff* I bring. And I love, love, love when people combine this love with my love of books. I am forever in awe of the BookishManicurist instagram account (how does she do that?!); I got a little thrill this morning when I saw that one of the prompts in this month's Booksoulmates Photo-a-Day challenge was a book and lipstick pairing.  When these two worlds meet...there is my happy place.

You guys have probably had an inkling of this, too. I do my fun little character lookbooks for FTF / AIA; I reviewed fairy tale themed makeup; and though I don't post them here, on the vlog channel, I do have videos devoted solely to all this glorious, glorious *stuff*.

So, as I mentioned in my 2015 Mission Statement, one of my goals this year is to break down the barriers on the blog, and bring more of my personality as a whole (and not just as a book lover) into this whole shebang, and since this is a big part of who I am (and because, as you may know, I am a color coder), I thought I'd do occasional posts with makeup and nail polish picks to go along with my pretty, pretty books. (And since one of my smaller goals of the year is to get more use out of my camera & build my picture-taking skills (ie learn all the damn SLR has to offer), this is another ✔  to check off!) If you're like me, you can love the book porn/color porn/makeup porn aspects of the pictures, and if not, well... there will be a brand new post up tomorrow, hope to see you then!

So here is the first of my random BookLooks posts, and much wordier than they will generally be. I wanted to give you a bit of an intro, but in future, we'll jump straight to the good stuff! (And it's probably no coincidence that all of these first round of picks tend to be my favorite Spring colors... out with the winter blahs, in with the winter brights!)

I love all of the slightly different shades of aqua mottled together in the cover of Cat Patrick's Revived, so I thought a few variations on aqua (which, clearly, I love. This didn't make a dent in my aqua collection...), sponged over a white base would be a great nod to the book — and a speckle of black at the tips, if you can bear to break up the color!
Featuring Revived and Studio M 'Age of Aquarius,' China Glaze '
Too Yacht to Handle,' and PaintFab 'Teal the Show.'

Well, hello there, my favorite color...
Featuring The Sky is Everywhere and Zoya Mitzi

There's nothing I love more in the dead sameness of winter than adding the BRIGHTEST pop of color I can find, and since the film version of The Duff will be coming out soon, it seemed like the perfect choice to shake up the winter ho-hum humdrums.
Featuring The Duff and Studio M 'Infusion,' Julep 'Abbie,' and Color Club 'Blue Ming.'

So, does anyone else get a giddy little thrill when their nail polish (or lipstick!) matches the book they're reading? Or do you think I'm totally crazy?
(It's the little things, man. I'm tellin ya.)

  1. Yes! This is an awesome feature. I can't wait to see the upcoming posts!

  2. How fun! Nail polish isn't really on my radar until summer thong season, but I can't judge since I accessorize my books with bookmarks and covers that match their content. My Scottish plaid mark is for any book set in Scotland or with a Scot for a protagonist and my horses and horseshoes cover goes on all westerns or cowboy hero books and my SIL got me a frilly Flapper style cover for me Roaring Twenties reads. Look forward to seeing these new idea posts.
You did a stellar job of matching up, Misty.

    1. I love that you match your bookmarks and things to your books. I had that accidentally happen once (polar bear bookmark in Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow), and it was just so perfect, it made my day. lol!

  3. I can't say I've ever really matched my lipstick (don't actually wear it...) or nailpolish to a book, but I love the combos of colour you're showing! This feature looks like fun!

    1. Oh, I don't mean intentionally matching the book you're reading (though that's cool, too, and I like when people do it); I mean, you're reading along and you look up and realize the shade of polish you're wearing is the same as the book you're reading! It just never ceases to amuse me. lol!

  4. As a fellow color whore (see: Printcess) I 100% applaud this post. I once spent a month trying to replicate current read plots with my manicure, but never considered the cover! *facepalm*
Will definitely be doing this now, because COLOR.

Also, is Mitzi a yellow, or a green? I don't have a word for that shade...

    1. It's chartreuse! Or citron. They're practically the same color, and whatever you call it, it is my favorite! (And it's a bright mix of yellow and green, so that's why you're having trouble identifying it! lol)

  5. Love this post! One of my favorite color combos is black, teal, and silver (those were my high school's colors, funny enough). And I agree about liking a little pop of color in the wintertime--it keeps you cheerful :) - Maggie @ macarons & paperbacks

    1. Exactly! I love dark colors in the winter, too - you see everybody going for oxblood shades, and I do like that. But I tend to use those in late fall/early winter, and by the time the snow has set in and winter is truly under way, I'm ready for something bright and bold to shake it up! =D

  6. I love looking at those pictures. I just love when things match up like that. I never would have thought of combining nail polish and books though! Now I'm kind of tempted even though I'm usually not a fan of painting my nails (my hands are too shaky most of the time for a proper manicure!).

I'd absolute ADORE seeing some eyeshadow posts like this though. I'm a sucker for eyeshadow, I love dramatic eyes. (I'm a bit obsessed with make-up myself.)

    1. If your hands are too shaky, maybe you'd be a fan of nail appliques? Though I will say, the more you do it, the less you shake. 'Practice' and 'perfect' and all that... ;)

I definitely do want to do eyeshadow (and other makeup!) posts, when I have more time to devote to them, but nail polish ones will prob be the most frequent, because they're easy, they're bright, and they're accessible to just about everybody. =D

  7. This is so neat! Like Ash, I have shaky hands, but every once in a while I toy with the idea of sticking some polish on. Hmmm... Maybe bright red? That would shove those winter blues right out the door.
