THE JUNE #WEDNESDAYYA BOOK CLUB PICK IS...

I unfortunately had to miss last week's Twitter discussion of May's read, A Blue So Dark (though I think I may record a vlog about the book and some elements specifically, like the treatment of mental illness + creativity, so if you're interested in that, let me know!), but it was announced during the chat that Liz and I were holding an instagram vote to determine this month's book club pick!
We each chose 2 books, and after two rounds of voting, THE PEOPLE have spoken. June's #WednesdayYA book club read is . . .

Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins
Contemporary Fantasy, 327 pages
Published March 13th 2012 by Hyperion Book CH
Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted.

Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

Spell Bound, by Rachel Hawkins! I've said before that Rachel Hawkins is my spirit animal, and her stories never fail crack me up and put me in a good mood -- which is why I chose Spell Bound, the final* book in the Hex Hall series. Yes, that's right: for once, the book I chose won! But I'll restrain myself, and only give the smallest of mwahahas.

* At least, I think it's the final book. Though there is a spin-off. But who's to say, she could always come out with more!

Now, because this is the 3rd book, I know some of you won't be able to join us. But it has been out for awhile, so many of you have probably read at least some of the series, if not the entire thing. And if you have, we hope you'll come chat with us! And if you've been meaning to pick up this series, I STRONGLY encourage you to do so now. You'll probably fly right through them, and you'll almost certainly get a kick out of them, so you may actually be able to read them in time for the discussion at the end of the month. [Wednesday, 24th @ 8:30pm EST, Twitter and Youtube.]

On one final note, Liz and I have been talking about ways to shake up #WYA, and whether people are still interested in participating, especially in the summer months. We're probably going to spring a survey on you at some point in the near future, but until then, if you have suggestions, comments or requests for the future of the book club, please leave them in the comments!

Hope you'll join us in reading Spell Bound this month!
