Pride & Prejudice on Beat... or something — guest post from Cecilia Gray

You may remember Cecilia Gray from imminently excellent posts like Austen By the Book, or How to Fake Being an Austen Fan (which, if you haven't read, you should go read, asap. Like, asap-asap.); or perhaps you've perused the colorful conversations, where she's said that Lydia Bennet is better than reality tv, and calls out John Dashwoof (<— haha, best typo ever, I'm leaving it) "[crapping] over the overlapping venn diagram trifecta of dying wish, familial obligation, and general decency". . .

Today, she's bringing us another video of her clever handiwork. This time, she's taking a look at the trailer for the 2005 P&P, and noticing something a little eerie, a little kooky, and a lot amusing. Think of it like "Beyonce's always on beat," but you know. . .with corsets and angst. ;)

  1. HA! I wonder if they cut trailers deliberately in 4/4 time, to accommodate that? I think the preppy one fits best (only because I hate that the original trailer uses the same dang piece of orchestral music in every period and romantic British film trailer, including Love Actually). UGH.
I do want to try pairing it with something from a SciFi trailer, like a Star Wars trailer or something, just to see.....

  2. I wonder, too, Beth! It just WORKED without me having to do anything!!!!!!!

Sci Fi + Carly Rae Jepson would be EPIC.

    1. I was thinking more like pairing this trailer with a John Williams score or something that's commonly used for scifi and fantasy epic trailers....

    1. I kind of wanted to try other stuff, but that would have been a productivity black hole from which I would never return.

  5. I chuckled how certain scenes matched up pretty well with specific music like the first one and the assembly dancing.

    Fun post, Cecilia!
