I read some things last year.
Some were good, some not so much, and lots were only so-so. Collected here for your ease and edification (lulz) are the ones I recommend -- and the ones I really don't.
Here are my  Top 5 & Bottom 5 (ish) Reads of 2017!

LE BOOKS:
FAVES:
I Stop Somewhere
Words in Deep Blue
Berserker
A Court of Mist & Fury

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice & Virtue
forgot to mention: Saga, vol 7

NOT FAVES:
The Bone Season
The Wrath & the Dawn
The Rose & the Dagger
*technically TWTD was read in late 2016, but I read them as a unit and think of them as 16/17 reads

  1. I love getting the Best of and the disappoints for the year. It puts it in perspective for sure. You remind me that I need to read the Court series. I have the first one. And Cath's book. Gah, I keep forgetting about it. :)
Uh oh, I have Bone Season and the Renee Ahdieh books on my pile as well. Maybe I'll be alright since its so far from the hype.

  2. I read A Face Like Glass too last year and I agree, it was very bizarre. I was super impressed with the plotting and storytelling though -- some really interesting themes it explores.

Also, sorry to hear The Bone Season didn't work for you :( I had a hard time getting into it at first (seriously, I must have picked it up, read the first few chapters, and put it aside like 3 times or something) but once I actually forced myself to push past the confusing start and get further in, I really ended up enjoying it. It's too bad you stuck it out to the bitter end and wasn't rewarded by it!

I totally get the "drifting out of a book" thing, btw. It's been happening to me a lot lately, where I'll pick up something and read it for a while and then just kinda get bored and not want to pick it up again. Not sure why it's happening but I wish I was finishing more books!
