It's a brand new week, Janeites! There was lots and lots (and lots) of stuff going on 'round these parts last week, and there's just as much Janery to be had this week — so let's start the week with your morning paper, shall we? It's all the Austen news that's fit to print!
Holy smokes! So much stuff this week, including:
- An excerpt & giveaway from Leigh Dreyer (yes, she of the hilarious Menfolk post...)
- A lunch date with yours truly, while I discuss a unique continuation I *heart*
- Week 2 of our special excerpts from Maria Grace's A Proper Introduction to Dragons
- A compelling conversation with Maria Grace on a surprisingly divisive, I thought totally-beloved, Austen man
- Another thought-provoking piece, this time from Christina Boyd, on Austen's heroines' brush with feminism — and another giveaway!
- My thoughts on another unique take on P&P (this time, with dragons), and, you guessed it, another giveaway!
- An Austenesque FREEBIE for all, designed by yours truly!
- A brand-new Regency recipe from Beth — this one sounds so refreshing!
- And to go along with it, the remainder of this weekend's Dinner & a Movie night, including a Twitter Watch-Along party!
In need of some Austenesque reads to get you in the mood for AIA? Here are some personal faves and current bargains to feed your reader -- and fill that Jane Austen shaped hole in your heart -- with! Some of these are even free!
Not enough Janery going on for you in this first week of AIA? Don’t worry, we’ve got 8 previous years to plunder for awesome Austen posts, In Case You Missed It! Take a stroll through and discover (or rediscover!) things like:
- Author Laurie Viera Rigler shared her "Sex and the Austen Girl," and yes, it's as funny as you think it's going to be.
- Austen authors got together and discussed their all-time favorite scenes in all of Austen.
- We also broke it down even further into all-time favorite lines
- Margaret C. Sullivan had the temerity to rank Austen's heroes! Or rather, let them rank themselves?
- Jessica Grey stopped by to talk about gender-flipping P&P
- AIA readers tackled the question of Austen's b*tches in this Convo-redux
- Danielle shared a short story with us especially for AIA, called 'Is That So?'
- and Eliza Shearer made us pine for Austen's lost loves...
* a selection on newsy bits and bits and bobs for the truly discerning Janeite *
Lots of interesting home bits for you this week. Maybe you're in need of some Pemberley pint glasses? Coasters to put under them? Pillows to lounge against while you drink your Pemberbrew?
I gotcha covered.
Next week, we've got more Dinner & Movie stuffs for ya, a number of giveaways and a freebie for all, the 3rd part of Maria Grace's A Proper Introduction to Dragons, a chat with a fledgling Janeite, and more!
What's your favorite Austenesque book that's been out for awhile, and may not be on everyone's radar? Or your trusty, tried & true faves?

Thank you for highlighting the items in this post, Misty. I don't know there are so many Austenesque goodies (besides books, of course!) available for purchase on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteAs to your question, my favourite Austenesque novel is Pemberley by the Sea or the re-titled novel now known as The Man Who Loved Pride & Prejudice. It's not a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice per se, but the themes and characters are still present in Abigail Reynolds's story.
