Storm Front by Jim Butcher (Dresden Files series)
In the first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series, Harry Dresden’s investigation of a grisly double murder pulls him into the darkest depths of magical Chicago…
As a professional wizard, Harry Dresden knows firsthand that the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things—and most of them don’t play well with humans. And those that do enjoy playing with humans far too much. He also knows he’s the best at what he does. Technically, he’s the only at what he does. But even though Harry is the only game in town, business—to put it mildly—stinks.
So when the Chicago P.D. bring him in to consult on a double homicide committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name...

Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress series)
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.
In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Borders closing was like losing a friend. Anyway... sadly, I have not read the first two. The Jim Butcher series is one that I will be reading. This I know. Not sure about the Kim Harrison one though it is a distinct possibility.
ReplyDeleteBut,
I have read the Night Huntress series, the side story standalones, the novellas, and a couple of the Vlad sequel series. I enjoy a lot about it and devoured them like popcorn as you said, but, looking back I had something of a love-hate, moderately, with that series because the heroine. Her attitude evolved and I can't say that I wasn't tempted to pop her in the back of the head a few times. Toward the end, I was tolerating her to get the rest of the series because I enjoyed everything and everyone else. I was a big fan of the ghouls. :) This is moody-reader me and I can be tough on heroines so take it with a grain of salt.
I love me some urban fantasy. My favorite so far has been the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.
